ABSTRACT

In the fi rst chapter, I discussed how sport was developed to produce orthodox masculinity by turning boys away from femininity and homosexuality. In subsequent chapters I explained the structural mechanism which permits sport to near-seamlessly reproduce itself, and how the continued socialization of boys into an orthodox form of masculinity bleeds into their adult lives, and other social institutions as well. Thus, at a macro-level, I have discussed how sport promotes sexism, homophobia, and patriarchy. In this chapter I investivate matters at a micro level.
