ABSTRACT

Th e art table in Joan’s preschool was one of the most popular areas in the room. It was full of materials for a variety of projects. Th ere was an adult nearby to supervise, and student eff orts were always met with enthusiastic praise. Joan thought it strange that two of her students never went near the art table. For the fi rst 3 months of school, neither David nor Diane touched the paints, crayons, scissors, or other available materials.
