ABSTRACT

There are all sorts of reasons why English has so many words that cause problems – to native speakers and foreigners alike. For example, there may be several English words meaning the same thing: start, begin, commence – which one best fits the context? Or there may be several similar-sounding words meaning different things: assure, ensure, insure – which one says exactly what you want to say?
