ABSTRACT
This chapter illustrates certain socio-cultural aspects the city of Gao inherited from medieval Spain. Gao’s diverse socio-cultural inheritance resulted in part from longstanding trade relations between these two areas as well as the presence of African Moors in Spain as far back as the Middle Ages.
