ABSTRACT

Classroom climate (CC)—also referred to in the literature as “classroom environment,” “learning environment,” or “classroom culture”—is today one of the fl ourishing areas of research in educational psychology. Extensive research on CC has been conducted and published since the 1980s in Australia, in several countries in the Far East, and in the USA and Europe. A new scientifi c journal (“Learning Environment Research”) was established in 1998, and a new Special Interest Group of the American Educational Research Association is focused on CC (both headed by Barry Fraser of Australia). A large number of questionnaires and instruments for the measurement of CC have been constructed, validated, and published for public use (see Fraser, 1998; Dorman, 2002).
