ABSTRACT

How ought a responsible researcher to behave, where doing otherwise means failing, for that reason, to research responsibly? This chapter explores one issue germane for many investigations into sport and leisure; indeed, one arguably central to research into social science. As we shall see, the researcher’s commitments extend both to data-collection and to analysis, two contrasting phases of the research process. Further, the need for rigour in analysis of the data combines with that for the dissemination of research conclusions. Moreover, these are moral obligations, in ways the chapter may clarify.
