ABSTRACT

A number of the skills required of the therapist when conducting SBNT are similar to those involved in other forms of alcohol treatment. In this manual, we do not cover in detail some of the more basic counselling skills that are used when working with individuals. These are assumed to be within the repertoire of skills available to alcohol practitioners. There are, in addition, a set of new skills that will be necessary for the successful implementation of SBNT. As a therapist you need to be able to develop these skills which are outlined below.
