ABSTRACT

We started this book in Chapter 1 by acknowledging the long examination tradition dating from ancient China and the enormous number of Chinese Learners learning English and taking English tests inside and outside China. We will end the book in this fi nal chapter by discussing the implications of these facts and fi gures and by aiming to provide some directions for future work in the area of English language assessment with Chinese Learners. This chapter will fi rst bring together the main points from the discussions of each of the previous chapters, including the implications and consequences of the extensive use of large scale assessment/testing in China and the current trend(s) which may indicate where assessment/testing will go in the future.
