ABSTRACT
In 2004, more than 43% of video gamers played online an hour or more each week, an increase from 31% the previous year (Americans playing, 2004). A recent survey found that, in the United States, women over the age of 40 play the most online games; they spend almost 50% more time each week playing online than men and are more likely to play online daily than men or teens. Among this demographic, word and puzzle games are the most popular, followed by arcade, trivia, and sports games (Greenspan, 2004a). Other studies have found that, in terms of gender, online game players are nearly balanced, with slightly more males (51 to 53%) than females (Greenspan, 2004b).
