ABSTRACT

Compared to women, young men are typically not as good with what we have come to call emotional intelligence, the ability to understand, sort out, and manage emotions. Whether this is due to some biological differences, the impact of culture and socialization, or both, the fact remains that guys are often not as skilled with this as girls. Not only that, but many guys don’t want to be skilled with it. They take pride in how they are nonemotional or in the ways they have found to avoid unpleasant feelings.
