This chapter is the beef. Specific techniques are presented to work with the couple with an offensive difficult partner. The techniques are organized into categories that deal with (1) issues of control; (2) the difficult partner owning his or her behavior; and (3) the difficult partner coming out of hiding to discover himself or herself. This chapter is designed to help the therapist dive in. The techniques focus on working with the offensive difficult partner although, as discussed in Chapter 4, they may also be applicable to work with other types of difficult partners.
