ABSTRACT
It is hard to argue against more effective and efficient use of public resources to deliver healthcare. It is difficult to be against mechanisms to promote quality improvement and innovation through competition between healthcare providers within a publicly funded health system and the drawing of insights from diverse private sector providers. The promotion of greater transparency and availability of information to enable patients to make better choices about their own healthcare seems a worthy intention.
