ABSTRACT

How well does CI work? Pretty well, according to insiders. Former bosses of Monsanto’s CI unit estimated returns to the tune of $50 million annually. Motorola’s former chair, Robert Galvin, hired former intelligence officers to set up a CI unit for the firm back in the 1970s. Since then, Motorola has never been blindsided in the way that Xerox was in the 1980s, when Japanese firms cut into the firm’s copier market share. Indeed, their unit was directed by three ex-CIA operatives in a row.
