But a few years ago, GE faced big challenges of its own when it tried to win a contract that could be worth billions to provide power turbines to several regional utilities in China. On the one hand, China represents a big growth market for GE’s power turbines. Soaring economic development has caused electricity demands in China to skyrocket in recent years. China must spend over $10 billion annually on new power plants well past 2010 just to catch up.
