ABSTRACT

To sum up, an increasingly large group of multinational firms are locked in a talent war with Chinese companies-many of which also now do business abroad. Both sets of firms are after the same pool of young, college-educated Chinese employees with good English skills and a bit of experience to fill jobs in marketing, finance, manufacturing, and a variety of technical fields. And the big question, if you’re a multinational, is how to win in this tough recruiting game-especially as continuing to pump salaries ever higher clearly isn’t the answer. Of course, the manager charged with dealing with all of this may be a foreign expatriate posted to China, making things doubly tough given the shortage of talent and a cultural backdrop that is quite different from the United States or Europe.
