ABSTRACT

So far we have discussed various types of people who seek admission into a country and various ways countries decide who to admit. But how does a country deal with people whom it did not admit but who are in the country anyway? Such people may have gotten in by entering without being formally admitted (i.e. they crossed the border illegally), or they may have been formally admitted but then overstayed the right to be there (i.e. overstayed their tourist, student, or work visa).
