ABSTRACT

The aim of this chapter is to highlight the approximate similarities between the pragmatist and critical theoretical understanding of the epistemological, ontological and normative presuppositions deriving from their creative appropriation of the classical sources. Of particular importance, accordingly, are the medium quo theory of knowledge, processual theory of society and counterfactual ideas of reason. Of interest is also the interaction between Critical Theory and pragmatism, however minimal it was at this early stage.
