ABSTRACT

In 1632 the Metropolis of Monemvasia was united with the ecclessiastical see of Kalamata and the prelate was settled mainly there because the region of Monemvasia was very poor in revenues and he went there, usually, each year for Easter.1 From 1758 it is testified that Anthimos from Lesvos was Metropolitan of Monemvasia and Kalamata; at that time a relative prosperity in the city of Monemvasia is noted.2
