ABSTRACT

The focus of the last three chapters has been on student learning, teacher learning and organisational learning. At this point it is valuable to recall a point made in Chapter 1, namely, that we consider our position on each of these three areas to be a pragmatic one. In other words, while it constitutes a challenge to those charged with leading learning at the school’s level, the realisation of what is being advocated is achievable. We also hold that one way of enthusing leaders of learning in the classroom to espouse the position is to expose them to inspirational developments which have taken place in different parts of the world. Consequently, this chapter outlines six such developments, two in relation to teacher learning and four in relation to student learning. These extend in scale from a macro-level set of projects to a single micro-level project. In keeping with the international focus of the book they relate to developments in Singapore, the USA, Ireland and East Africa.
