ABSTRACT

From the Future Movies session you have the princess (i.e., the client’s goal), which provides an answer to the question, “Why should I care/bother?” You also have a good start on the case formulation, which provides a detailed understanding of the client’s problem (i.e., the dragon and related symptoms) as well as the client’s strengths and resources (i.e., the knight and the kingdom), which may contribute to achieving the goals. In the Treatment Contracting session the therapist further develops the problem side of the case formulation, which leads directly to, “What to do about it?” The therapist then offers the suggestions, which constitute the treatment plan: (1) build a fence around the client for stabilization; (2) engage in personal training to help the client to become stronger, and then (3) slay the dragon.
