ABSTRACT

Whatever the technical merits of Rational Emotive Behaviour Therapy (REBT), it should not be forgotten that techniques employed by both the therapist and the client are done so within a relationship that forms and develops between them. There is a great deal of research pointing to the importance of the quality of this relationship to the outcome for the client in all forms of psychotherapy (Wampold, 2001) and REBT therapists generally acknowledge this importance. Indeed, REBT's position on the place of the relationship in this approach to psychotherapy has not changed over the years (Dryden, 1987).
