ABSTRACT

Restorative justice is about repairing the harm caused by anti-social and criminal behaviour. The inclusion of the victim is generally seen as an important feature of restorative justice. Restorative justice processes aim to hold offenders accountable by requiring them to explain how they think their actions may have affected others. It is hoped that this process will also help the victim. Restorative justice is not concerned with fact finding but with finding an appropriate response to an admitted offence. This chapter will examine the origins and role of restorative justice in the English youth justice system.
