ABSTRACT

Good lighting design attempts to put the right amount of light in the right place at the right time in order to enable people to perform visual tasks safely, comfortably and effi ciently. In addition, the lighting design should enhance the visual appearance of a space and, through the use of controls and daylight, be as energy effi cient as possible. In this chapter the planning considerations for lighting design are discussed, together with ways in which lighting energy usage can be minimised.
