ABSTRACT

The single most important leadership function is to create a focus for the group’s behavior. The literature pertaining to leadership is enormous. Emotional stability is another characteristic frequently listed for good leaders. When the going gets rough and there is a tremendous amount of frustration in the workplace, good leaders are even-keeled. Good leaders have vision, they see the “big picture,” and they know how to guide a department or an organization. Those who are chosen by an administration to be leaders clearly have the trust of those in the current leadership hierarchy. For the behavior analyst consultant, one of the most frequent opportunities to demonstrate leadership ability will be in the numerous meetings that occur in any organization. Good leaders are able to motivate people to contribute their ideas and their efforts in order to meet commonly held organizational goals. Learning how to delegate to others is another key skill of good leaders.
