ABSTRACT

Behavior analysis offers a set of basic principles that explain a wide range of behavior. The caring and compassionate behavior analyst might have a hard time turning away requests, especially if there do not appear to be any other qualified individuals around. To be totally competent in applied behavior analysis means that professional behavior analysts have gone beyond the minimal requirements to pass the Behavior Analyst Certification Board exam. Within applied behavior analysis, there are a number of specialty areas. In a case related to competence in performance management (PM), a brand-new master’s-level behavior analyst with some basic experience in PM had an opportunity to interview for a job involving behavioral safety in open-pit mining and the steel industry. Becoming competent in applied behavior analysis and professional behavior analysts' specialty area is critically important to maintain the standards of excellence for our field.
