ABSTRACT

The notion of risk is oen associated with mobile communities and derives from constructions of mobility as deficit and deviant. These constructions locate mobile communities outside the usual sources of capacity building and forms of capital. Accordingly mobile community members must create new and dierent approaches to building their capacities in ways that are individually and communally sustainable. This chapter traces the multiple means by which these community members embrace risk and build capacity, in the process maximizing sustainable learning outcomes.
