ABSTRACT

This chapter provides a sample of a comprehensive safe school plan in addition to a discussion of the various elements of specific crisis response plans. Effective safe schools planning encompasses both district- and school-level comprehensive safe school plans, in addition to specific crisis response protocols. Crisis response plans are a subcomponent of the Comprehensive Safe School Plan and are developed both at the district and individual school level in the preparedness phase. The school/building-level crisis response plans are linked to the preparedness, response, and recovery section of the district’s overall comprehensive safe school plan. A school crisis team response plan focuses the crisis team on best practice responses and the school protocol to be used in the event of a crisis or emergency situation. The Staff Crisis Response Plan is developed for school staff and focuses on the immediate execution of specific roles and responsibilities of staff to ensure safety of all.
