ABSTRACT

In 1999 the philosopher and ethicist Peter Singer wrote a booklet entitled A Darwinian Left: Politics, Evolution and Cooperation. In his introduction he writes:

It is time for the left to take seriously the fact that we are evolved animals, and that we bear the evidence of our inheritance, not only in our anatomy and our DNA, but in our behaviour too. In other words it is time to develop a Darwinian left.1
