ABSTRACT
In this chapter, we define syntactic priming and describe how syntactic priming methods have been used in L1 and L2 processing and acquisition research. We introduce the four experimental tasks used in syntactic priming research and describe in detail the materials, procedure and analysis of each task. We highlight an example study that used syntactic priming to investigate L2 acquisition, and we point out issues to consider when designing syntactic priming studies. We conclude the chapter with suggestions for additional uses of syntactic priming methods in L2 research.
