ABSTRACT

In this chapter, we describe how to analyze priming data and how to carry out several statistical tests commonly used in priming research. Because our focus is on priming research, we do not provide the more general information about research design found in research design textbooks (such as Creswell, 2003; Dörnyei, 2007; Mackey & Gass, 2005). We also illustrate how to use SPSS to carry out statistical tests used in the analysis of priming data, but a more extensive introduction is available in texts by Field (2005) and Salkind (2008). We conclude the chapter with an introduction to the journals in applied linguistics and psychology that publish priming studies.
