This chapter describes our extensive work in Dharavi for more than sixteen years building up to a two-year action research project in the community we did with UNICEF entitled “Inclusive Education Practice in Early Childhood in Mumbai,” India.1 With the launching of NRCI-I, I was keen to focus on inclusive education and underprivileged children in the slums settlements, or ‘community’ as we tend to call them.
