ABSTRACT
In order to understand fully Chesterton’s own philosophy of history, it would be useful to place it in context with the historical philosophies of some of Chesterton’s contemporaries. Chesterton’s search for truth in the manifold accounts of history was both original and persistent. He did, however, react to and comment upon the written accounts of history by his predecessors.
