ABSTRACT

In 1917, Warren McCulloch's academic advisor asked him to describe his research interests. He replied, "What is number, that a man [sic] may know it, and a man that he may know number?" His advisor responded, "Friend, thee will be busy as long as thee lives" (McCulloch, 1963, p. 1).
