ABSTRACT

During the game, three Rangers players were sent off, 13 yellow cards were issued and the managers of the two teams were involved in an incident as the two teams left the field. The following weeks saw the escalation of violence and forms of violence change, with a letter bomb campaign against Neil Lennon (the Celtic manager), Trish Godman (a retired politician and Celtic supporter) and Paul McBride QC. The latter went on to describe Scotland as a a Third World country and said that it was time to tackle the violence and sectarianism that had become intertwined with this football rivalry (The Herald, 22 April 2011: 1).
