The structural-cognitive model: A synthesis of collective action, resource mobilization, political opportunity, identity, and framing perspectives

This chapter builds on the analyses of the previous chapters and is actually a synopsis of the major critique and extension of the existing theoretical perspectives. It is shown more explicitly than previously how the critical analyses and extensions yield a synthesis that is called the structural-cognitive model. This model is presented in the first part of this chapter. The second part provides several illustrations that suggest ideas of how the model could be applied.
