ABSTRACT
It is now almost fifty years since I first set foot in what is now Zambia and forty-odd years since that former colony achieved or was granted Independence-perhaps sufficient time for a tentative assessment, although one might do well to remember that, when asked what he thought was the impact of the French Revolution, the wily Chou-en-Lai is said to have replied, ‘It is too early to say.’
