ABSTRACT

Tunisians take great and justifiable pride in their country’s accomplishments over the past five decades. Compared to other Arab and African countries, especially non-OPEC countries, Tunisia boasts one of the developing world’s most impressive human development records. There are richer countries. There are more democratic countries. But across a broad range of outcomes-economic growth, distribution of wealth, education, health care, gender equity, absence of violent domestic or international conflictTunisia’s record faces scant competition.
