ABSTRACT

Nurses work with children and young people in a range of settings. This includes community and hospital-based health services, schools and colleges, social care settings and the youth justice system. Other primary care professionals including GPs, health visitors and social workers come into contact with children who have ADHD on a daily basis. ADHD is one of the most widely researched and written about disorders in child and adolescent mental health literature. It has been viewed through many different lenses and is as controversial as it is common. There is no single theory of ADHD and we will hear that it can be understood within biological, psychological and social domains.
