ABSTRACT
In the period 1964-1974, Kim Jong Il started his career with the party and prepared to become his father’s successor. Kim, with his uncle KimYoˇng-ju, intensified the cult of Kim Il Sung and highlighted his expertise in the areas of art and literature. The North Korean totalitarian system was almost completed in this period.
