Shot put and hammer

Although it might be assumed that most throwing events originated during the ancient Greek Olympic era, there is no record of any projectiles similar to the shot put being thrown in Greek competition. It would appear that Greek contestants preferred the superior grace and style that accompanied the throwing of discuses and javelins.
