ABSTRACT
The following comments, gathered together in thematic order, were made in a wide-ranging phone interview conducted between the author and Jane Campion in August 2005.The interview took place early in the research for this book and, as a result, it does not address some of the issues subsequently explored in this analysis of Campion’s contemporary auteurism. It does, however, look in detail at the critical factors that assisted in the development of Campion’s career and her own approach to the creative process of filmmaking and, as such, many of her responses will be of enormous interest especially to filmmakers starting out in the industry.
