Principles, ethics and criteria of conservation

The basic approaches to conservation were established through the SPAB manifesto of 1877. The ethics or criteria of conservation are as follows:

minimal intervention

minimal loss of fabric

minimal loss of authenticity

absence of deception

reversibility.
