ABSTRACT

Transport is at the core of the logistic global operation. Often it is multi-modal, embracing other forms of transport. The efficiency of the global supply chain is very much focused on the transport network used. Overall, it is very complex and increasingly so, as multi-sourcing is widely practised, especially in assembly plants relying on inbound and outbound component sourcing. More emphasis is being placed on overland distribution of road, rail and canal, embracing combined transport from a supplier to consumer supply chain. In some cases we have the air bridge, which adds a new dimension to the logistic operation globally.
