ABSTRACT

Regardless of how well meaning you are and how much you enjoy working with children, there is no substitute for thorough lesson planning and preparation. The two terms ‘lesson planning’ and ‘preparation’ have subtly different meanings. Lesson planning is, as its name implies, the process of producing an action plan for a teaching session in the pursuit of pupil learning. Preparation involves lesson planning plus harnessing resources plus rehearsing the predicted progress of the lesson in your head plus mental adjustment to secure a sound emotional state of mind prior to the start of the session.
