I was raised in an entirely Italian family, in a predominantly Polish neighbor-hood, in a historically German city (Milwaukee), in an otherwise rural state. It is no wonder that I became interested, early on, in learning the art of social infl uence, as navigating each of those domains required a deft negotiation of their varying norms, customs, and codes of conduct.
