ABSTRACT
This chapter reviews Freud’s famous paper on the “Rat Man,” placing it in context with regard to the subsequent evolution of psychoanalytic concepts. The origins and fate of Freud’s ideas on obsessional-compulsive thinking in contemporary psychoanalytic thinking are discussed, including some comments on the author’s clinical views of obsessionality.
