Poverty and food security

Food security is a basic human right. Therefore, every individual should have entitlement to food at all times. The FAO defined food security as ‘having access to safe and nutritional food for all people at all times’ to maintain a healthy and active life in the society. Thus entitlement and safety are intrinsic elements of food-security status. The following section measures food security in a number of ways, considering different variables.
