ABSTRACT
While I may have encountered the word paradigm before then, it wasn't until I had already earned my PhD (in 1977) that I remember paying any attention to it. For whatever reasons, the book that popularized the term, Kuhn's (1962) monograph The Structure of Scienti®c Revolutions, wasn't on any of my graduate school course reading lists. I think things have changed enough in 30 years so that this is not your ®rst encounter with the concept.
