ABSTRACT

Internships and assistantships provide students with important opportunities to develop a personal framework for professional behavior. Most often, guidelines for this behavior are provided through the institutions in which they work and the professional associations to which they belong. Although much of what is defined as "professional behavior" is shaped by the culture of the employing organization, a large share of one's professional behavior also is defined by state and federal statutes, courts and the decisions they make, and statements of ethics.
