ABSTRACT
Yangpu Economic Development Zone was presented as a core element of Hainan’s economic development strategy in August 1988, not long after the establishment of Hainan Province. Yangpu is an excellent natural deepwater harbor situated at the northwest corner of Hainan Island, about 140 km from Haikou. It is also situated close to important shipping lanes and rich deposits of natural resources such as gas and oil.
